Mineral Powder Makeup

Mineral Powder Makeup

I first started using mineral powder makeup a few years ago. I had been watching one of the home shopping channels on television, got intrigued with the presentation and demonstration, and before I knew it I was online ordering over $100 worth of mineral powder makeup. That shopping spree turned out to be my most rewarding makeup purchase ever. It's the only time I've ever fallen in love with a makeup product - with the possible exception of the large tubes of Bonnie Bell flavored lip glosses I loved as a teenager!

My brand of choice in mineral powder makeup is Bare Escentuals. Simply put, I love this makeup. I love it so much that I don't anticipate buying another makeup brand ever again. I love it all - the foundations, eye shadows, facial tints, powdered eyeliners, and blushes.

I haven't tried too many of the Bare Escentuals products that are not actual powders. I've not tried the mascaras, lotions or potions, or makeup removers. I did try the lip gloss and that was probably my least favorite of all the Bare Escentuals products. It's not that there was anything really wrong with the lip gloss - I just thought it was pricey and not that much better than other less expensive lip glosses on the market.

My favorite product of the Bare Escentuals line is the foundation. I love that product! There are so many good things about it. It's lightweight, doesn't clump or crease, has built in SPF protection, and it is a natural product that they say you can even sleep in, although I always remove all my makeup before bed. Two other great benefits are that the foundations in the Bare Escentuals line do an awesome job of covering red spots like broken capillaries, roseacea and excema. I even use the foundation when I have break outs. Although Bare Escentuals makes no claims about using the product for that reason, I swear it works for me.

Mineral Powder Makeup Application Tips

I don't know that Bare Escentuals was the first to produce mineral powder makeup, but I think at the very least, they were the ones who really boosted its popularity. The line was so successful that knockoffs were bound to appear, and appear they have - in droves. Now, almost every manufacturer of cosmetics and makeup has introduced their own line of mineral powder makeup.

I have not tried any other brands only because I'm so sold on Bare Escentuals. However, if that were not the case, I would not hesitate to experiment with the different lines on the market. In fact, Bare Escentuals is probably one of the most expensive mineral powder makeup lines available so finding less expensive products should not be a problem at all.

If you decide you want to try the less expensive brands, they should be easy to find online or even at the grocery store. If you want to splurge a little, and go for Bare Escentuals, one of the best places to buy it is on Amazon. I've found great deals there on everything from foundations to eye shadows. Sometimes there are also great deals on kits and buying makeup that way can save money. One hint - look for travel sizes - they are a great way to try the different colors and various products.

Best Tools to Use with Mineral Powder Makeup

Some of the best tools to use with mineral powder makeup are the brushes and organizer bags.

One of the most well known makeup brushes is the Kabuki Brush. The Kabuki is made specifically for mineral powder makeup. Personally, I've not used the Kabuki Brush, but only because I already had tons of makeup brushes when I started using Bare Escentuals. However, I have read reviews of the Kabuki Brush and lots of women are very pleased with it. There are other brushes that compliment the mineral makeups. For example, the eyeliner brush is great because the shape of the brush is conducive to the application of the powder-to-liquid eyeliners.

You can also find nifty makeup bags that have all kinds of compartments for the brushes and makeup pots the mineral powder makeup comes in. These bags are really handy because before you know it, you will accumulate lots of little pots of makeup and keeping them organized is essential. Plus, these makeup bags are really great for travel.

One other thing I really like about the mineral makeup is that you can mix the products together. For example, I sometimes mix my basic foundation powder with mineral veil or the various blush colors. It can be fun to mix the powders and create custom colors and a unique look.

Another bonus is that mineral powder makeup lasts a super long time. Once you purchase a pot of foundation, you will not need another for quite some time. Even though it might seem pricey in the beginning, it last so long that the actual price per use is really quite low.

There are so many great things about this kind of makeup. If you have never used mineral powder makeup before, I highly recommend you give it a try.

Wow! I would love to try mineral make up, specially the foundation. I thought that mineral make up is just another product in the market which doesnt deliver what it claims..but now I am positive that it would be worth it !

Yep - I love, love, love, mineral makeup. I've not tried any brands other than Bare Escentuals and I can definitely vouch for the quality.

Good information. I use mineral blush and eye shadow, but haven't seemed to like the powder make-up that is used all over the face in place of foundation. I didn't like it because it seems to make my fine lines more pronounced. Maybe I need to try the brand you suggested. I do however like that mineral foundation is better for your skin.

Thanks OTmommy - definitely give the Bare Escentuals a try if you get a chance. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm glad to hear you both love mineral makeup too. I think Bare Minerals and Bare Escentuals are basically the same product - just made by different companies. Thank you for the comments. :)

Great Hub. I have tried the Bare Minerals and it actually made my skin break out and I never breakout! It also didn't really seem to cover anything up. Everyone's skin type is different though.
